Avondale - Canada

The 1908-built steam powered self unloader Avondale is seen in this photograph as the was underway near the mouth of the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland. It is likely that she had just finished loading salt in the old river and is seen here turning toward the Penn Central bridge sometime in 1975. The PC Railway bridge was just out of the picture at the ship's bow. The tug alongside is Great Lakes Towing's Texas. Thanks Jim and Dale for the location information.

At the ship's bow a very familiar figure can be seen looking down upon the tug Texas that was lending a hand. For those who knew Captain John Leonard, his stance in this picture is a dead give away... Up Close...
