The self-unloading bulk carrier Saginaw is seen in this photograph as she was sailing upbound in the Welland Canal during the morning hours of December 22nd, 2001. She had just completed a trial run by taking a load of stone from Colborne to Clarkson on Lake Ontario. This is a run which ULS Corporation's James Norris has been engaged in nearly exclusively for almost 20 years.

It was later learned that the trial run was a success and that Lower Lakes Towing, Saginaw's owner had won the contract from ULS. Beginning in 2002 ships from LLT's fleet will be engaged in the Colborne to Clarkson stone shuttle. This photograph was taken as Saginaw was approaching lock 7 in Thorold.
