The cement barge Metis is seen in this photograph as she was being towed down the Welland Canal during the afternoon hours of April 20th, 2001. She had been languishing in Windsor for several years following her short career as a cement barge. The tugs Vac and Progress were towing the former ship to Hamilton where she was later refurbished and prepared for a new career in the bulk cement trade for ESSROC Cement of Canada. This photograph was taken just after they had departed from lock 8 in Port Colborne.
