In 1976 she was lengthened from 647 feet to 767 feet in overall length and in 1981 she was converted from a straight deck bulk carrier to a self unloader. Cleveland Cliffs ceased vessel ownership in 1985 and Edward B. Greene was purchased by the Ford Motor Company and renamed Benson Ford. In 1989 Ford also ceased vessel ownership and the ship passed to the ownership of the Interlake Steamship Company. At that time her name was changed to Kaye E. Barker.
