The 1987-built light icebreaker George R. Pearkes is seen in this photograph while she was underway in the St. Lawrence Seaway near Cote Ste. Catherine, Quebec, Canada on December 25th, 2000. The ship which is just in front of George R. Pearkes' bow is the retired Canada Steamship Lines self-unloader Manitoulin.

She was built in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada by the Versatile Pacific Shipyard for the Canadian Coast Guard along with a sistership Martha L. Black. Two other sister ships were built, Ann Harvey in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Sir Wilfred Laurier in Collingwood, Ontario. When this picture was added to the archives all four ships were still in service for the Canadian Coast Guard under their original names.
