The bulk carrier Yick Hua is seen in this photograph while transiting upbound in the Welland Canal during the afternoon hours of November 11, 2000. At the time it was taken she was sailing southbound in the canal below lock 2 in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. She was loaded with steel products from Antwerp, Belgium and was destined for Cleveland, Ludington and Burns Harbor to unload

This ship was built in Japan, launched in April of 1984 and entered service during August as (a) Pacific Defender. She has sailed under the following names and flags since then. (a) Pacific Defender Liberia (11/88) and (b) Lori J Cyprus (4/91). She was renamed Yick Hua at that time and when this picture was added to the archives she was still operational under that name.
