The 1998-built, 8,664-dwt, 6,130-grt, multi purpose ship Vechtborg is seen in this photograph while she was transiting upbound in the Welland Canal during the afternoon hours of November 27th, 2002. At the time this picture was taken she was sailing southbound in the canal just south of lock 2 which is located in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. Photograph by Jeff Cameron.

She was built in the Netherlands as hull number 331 by the Bodewes Volharding Shipyard Co. Ltd., for CV Scheepvaart "Vechtborg" who long term chartered the ship to Wagenborg Shipping BV, Netherlands. As a multi purpose ship Vechtborg is capable of carrying a wide variety of cargoes from containers and large project cargo modules to palletized general cargo and bulk loads like grain, magnesite ore or steel products. She is one of a growing number of "V" class ships being built for Wagenborg and when this picture was added to the archives in 1/2003 she was still operational as Vechtborg.
