The former Canadian tug El Conquistador is seen in this photograph as she was being rebuilt near New Westminster, British Columbia on the Fraser River during August of 2001.

She was originally built in 1938 for the Abitibi Power and Paper Company and operated in the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River system under the name Kam. In 1967 she sailed to Canada's west coast to take up new duties as Gulf IVY and in subsequent years she operated under the names Swiftsure X, Seaspan Explorer and Gulf Ivy. In January of 2000 she was retired from Canadian registry and sold to a U.S. based company who later converted the tug to a passenger vessel. Under the name El Conquistador she'll operate at Margarita Island in Venezuela. Photograph by Rene Beauchamp
