The general cargo vessel Tonya Bondarchuk is seen in this photograph while she was underway in Holland on July 19th, 1999. Photograph by Willem VanMaanen

Construction of this ship was ordered in June of 1971 and she ended up being one of many sisterships to be built during the early to mid 1980s for Murmansk Shipping. In December of 1971 the nearly completed ship was launched at the Neptun, Rostock shipyard in Rostock, East Germany, and in July of the following year she entered service as Tonya Bondarchuk. She spent her entire career sailing under this name. Her long career finally came to an end though when she arrived at Alang, India on February 2nd, 2001 where crews quickly began reducing her to scrap.
