The bulk carrier Sylvia is seen in this photograph as she was transiting upbound in the Welland Canal during the afternoon hours of May 29th, 2001. At the time it was taken she was sailing southbound in the canal south of lock 1 in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada enroute from Toronto, Ontario for Duluth, Minnesota to load soybeans.

Construction of this ship was ordered early in 1980 at the Ishakawajima Harima Heavy Industries Drydock in Japan and in February of 1981 she entered service as Chimo. She has sailed under the following names and flags through her career so far. (a) Chimo (2/90) - Hong Kong, (b) Bergen Pride (6/93) - Norway, (c) China Power (6/96) Hong Kong and when this photograph was added to the archives she was still operational as (d) Sylvia.
