The chemical and petroleum products tanker Jade Star is seen in this photograph transiting upbound in the Welland Canal during the afternoon hours of a day in June of 1997. At the time this picture was taken she was sailing southbound at Port Robinson in the location where bridge 12 used to stand.

This tanker was built in Germany and entered service in January of 1993 as (a) Jadestern. Shortly after her construction she was transferred to the Canadian subsidiary "Rigel Shipping Canada" along with her sisterships Elbestern now Diamond Star and Emsstern now Emerald Star. Jadestern was renamed (b) Jade Star and transferred to Canadian registry. At the time this photograph was added to the archives she was still named Jade Star and still flew the Canadian flag
