North Challenge - Panama

The chemical tanker North Challenge is seen in this photograph transiting upbound in the Welland Canal at Port Robinson during the afternoon hours of April 12, 2001. At tjhe time it was taken she was sailing southbound in the canal destined for Marathon, Wisconsin to deliver caustic soda from Freeport, Texas, U.S.A.

Construction of this ship was ordered in January of 1998 at the Watanabe Zosen KK Shipyard in Japan and in November of that year the completed ship entered service under the Panamanian flag as Queen of Montreaux. She only sailed under this name until July of 1999 when she was given her presnt name (b) North Challange. When this photograph was added to the archives she was still sailing as such for Tachibanaya KK of Japan
