New York Star - London, England

The 1965-built, 5,552-grt general cargo ship New York Star is seen in this photograph while she was underway possibly in South Africa. The exact location and date are unknown.

She was built in Sunderland, England at the Bertram & Sons Ltd. Drydock for the Blue Star Line and entered service for them as New York Star. In 1980 she was sold to the Panama Shipping Company and renamed Liguria. On December 21st, 1983 she arrived at Karachi, Pakistan and the following day she moved on to Gadani Beach where she was intentionally run aground. On February 26th, 1984 workers of Ahmed Mercantile Ltd., began dismantling the hull for scrap. Photograph courtesy Willem VanMaanen's collection.
