New Azalea - Panama

The bulk carrier New Azalea is seen in this photograph while she was loading possibly in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada during July of 1985. Photograph by my late Grandfather Harry Cook

This ship's construction was ordered in June of 1983 at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Shipyard in Japan. In August of 1984 she nearly completed ship was launched and in December of that year she entered service under the Panamanian flag as Sanko Azalea. In the time since then she has sailed under the following names and flags. (a) Sanko Azalea (1985) - Panama, (b) New Azalea (87) - Panama, (c) Diamond Azalea (7/89) - Panama, (d) Samar Sampaguita (7/90) - Philipines, (e) Golden Topaz (9/94) - Philipines then under the Panamanian flag until (4/97) and when this photograph was added to the archives she was operational as (f) Ellenita under the Panamanian flag
