The bulk carrier Neva Trader is seen in this photograph while she was transiting upbound in the Welland Canal during the morning hours of May 5, 2001. At the time it was taken she was sailing southbound in the canal north of lock 7 in the Thorold, Ontario, Canada destined for Cleveland and Chicago to unload heavy steel plates from Oxelosund, Sweden.

Construction of this ship was ordered in June of 1976 and one year later the nearly completed hull was launched at the Brodrene Lothe A/S Shipyard in Haugesund, Norway. In November of 1977 she entered service under the flag of Finland as (a) Pasila. In October of 1993 she was renamed (b) Nordon and re-flagged to Sweden. In August of 1997 her flag was changed to Norway in April of 1999 she was renamed (c) Neva Trader. At the time this photograph was added to the archives she was still active as Neva Trader for B&N Nordsjofrakt Stockholm
