Nefos II - Piraeus, Greece

The SD-14 class general cargo vessel Nefos II is seen in this photograph as she was transiting downbound in the Welland Canal during the beautiful morning hours of July 3rd, 1971. She was about to enter Lake Ontario. Photograph by Gordon Turner

Construction of this ship was ordered in October of 1970 at the Austin & Pickersgill Shipyard England. During April of 1971 the nearly completed ship was launched and in May she set out on her maiden voyage under the Greek flag as Nefos II. Through her career she sailed under the following names and flags - (a) Nefos II (80) - Greece, (b) Giannis M (87) - Greece, (c) Simoon (6/87) - Greece and finally (d) Trinity Sierra until 5/97 under the flag of Cyprus. Her final sale brought about a fifth name however she never sailed as (e) Nimbero. She arrived in Alang, India on May 8th, 1997 and was subsequently beached for scrapping
