She was built in Hamburg, Germany by Howaldtswerke Hamburg A.G. as Neder Elbe for Stoomvaart Maatschappij "Nederland". From 1970 ti 1977 Neder Elbe operated for Koninklijke Nedlloyd and from 1977 to 1979 she sailed as Nedlloyd Elbe for Nedlloyd Lijnen, Holland. In 1979 she was sold to Pacific International Lines (Pte.), Singapore and her name was changed to Kota Maju. Finally on May 25, 1984 she arrived at Shanghai, China where workers from China Resources Metals & Minerals Company Ltd. reduced the ship to scrap.
