The former coastal cargo ship Moby Dick is seen in this photograph as she was
transiting downbound in the Welland Canal during the afternoon hours of October 8th, 1991.
At the time it was taken she was owned by Greenpeace and they were on their departure
voyage from the Great Lakes..
She was built in Germany in 1959 as the trawler Wiking (KW 156/HF550). In 1986 she was
renamed Moby Dick by Greenpeace International. She measured 25.43 meters in length and
6.22 meters wide with tonnages of 118.5-grt and 39.07-nrt. Her call sign was PC8031.
