** In 1982 American Spartan was sold by the Government of the United States of America (Department of Commerce)
to M.P.M. Transportaion Inc., in New York, New York however the name was not changed
** On December 15th, 1982 while American Spartan was lying at Diego Garcia she suffered major engine room flooding.
She was apparently pumped out shortly thereafter and subsequently declared a constructive total loss.. The damage must have been extensive.
** She was later towed (date ??) to Subic Bay and laid up pending disposal
** On 25 July 1983 American Spartan departed Subic Bay under tow destined for shipbreakers at Kaohsiung, Taiwan. She arrived there
on 5 August 1983. Shyeh Shen Huat Steel & Iron Workd Co. Ltd., Taiwan was identified as her final buyer. At Kaohsiung, she was run up on the
scrapping beach and work demolishing the 14 year old ship began on 20 August 1983.
