The general cargo ship Marjorie Lykes is seen in this photograph while approaching the Welland Canal entrance at Port Weller, Ontario, Canada during the evening hours of a day in June of 1989. Photograph by Willem VanMaanen

This ship was built in the United States during 1962 and she entered service late that year as Marjorie Lykes. Like most of the other Lykes ships at that time she flew the flag of the United States. She served for 33 years under this name however her last reported arrival at a port under this name was on March 13, 1995 when she unloaded her last cargo at Dalain, China. There she was renamed (b) Tanwar and handed over to her new owners. On April 16th she arrived off Alang, India and soon after found herself hard aground on the scrapping beaches. In the months that followed she was quickly dismantled.
