The container ship Lykes Navigator is seen in this photograph while maneouvering in the harbour at Veracruz, Mexico during February of 1998. Photograph by Willem VanMaanen

Construction of this ship was ordered in Japan in April of 1984. In January of 1986 the nearly completed ship was launched and during April of that year she entered service as Almeria Lykes. Through her career since then she has always flown the U.S. flag but she has had the following names. (a) Almeria Lykes (87), (b) President Buchanan (8.96), (c) Almeria Lykes (9.2.98) and at the time this picture was added to the archives she was operational under her 4th name (d) Lykes Navigator.
