The general cargo vessel Jean Lykes is seen in this photograph while transiting downbound in the Welland Canal during the evening hours of a day in June of 1983. She was sailing northbound at the time and was heading towards lock 2 in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. Photograph by Willem VanMaanen

This ship was built in the United States and entered service in 1961 as Jean Lykes. She sailed for her entire career under this name. During 1994 though her usefullness came to and end and on July 6th she anchored off the beaches of Alang, India. Several days later on 9th she was run aground there and crews began cutting her up for scrap shortly thereafter.
