The general cargo vessel Aimee Lykes is seen in this photograph while underway at Durban, South Africa during July of 1978. Photograph courtesy Kevin Moore - Willem VanMaanen's collection

This ship was built in the United States and entered service in 1963 as (a) Aimee Lykes. She sailed under this name until 1986 when she was withdrawn from merchant service and transferred to the United States Maritime Administration's reserve fleet and laid up under the name (b) Cape May. She will be held in reserve in case the U.S. Sealift Command requires her to transport military machinery to potential war zones around the world.
