The bulk carrier Kapitonas Serafinas is seen in this photograph while transiting upbound in the Welland Canal during the afternoon hours of August 18, 1998. At the time it was taken she was sailing southbound in the canal south of lock 2 in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada destined for U.S. Great Lakes ports with steel products.

This ship was built in the U.S.S.R. and entered service during June of 1980 as (a) Kapitan Stulov. At that time she flew the flag of Russia. When that country broke up in the early 1990s, this ship was transferred to the Lithuanian Shipping Corporation and renamed (b) Kapitonas Stulov during April of 1992. In November of 1997 she was renamed (c) Kapitonas Serafinas and when this photograph was added to the archives she was still operational under this name.
