Leonid Utesov - Russia

The chemical tanker Leonid Utesov is seen in this photograph transiting upbound in the Welland Canal during the morning hours of April 9th, 2001. At the time it was taken she was sailing southbound in the canal south of lock 3 in St. Catharines destined for Toledo, Ohio, U.S.A. to deliver ammonium nitrate.

Construction of this ship was ordered in October of 1985 at the 3 Maj Brodogradiliste Shipyard in Yugoslavia and the nearly completed hull was launched during July of 1988. In April of 1989 she entered service as Leonid Utesov. She has sailed as such for her entire career so far and continues to do so for her origianl owners, Novoship Novorossiysk Shipping of Russia
