The bulker Laura Pando is seen in this photograph while transiting upbound in the Welland Canal during the afternoon hours of a day in April of 1980. At the time it was taken she was sailing southbound on Lake Ontario and she was about to enter the Welland Canal at Port Weller destined for the upper Great Lakes. Photograph by Willem VanMaanen

This ship was built in Spain, launched in June of 1978 and entered service during February of 1979 as (a) Laura Pando. At that time she flew the Spanish flag. In July of 1981 she was sold and renamed (b) Donna Silvana and placed under Italian registry. Ten years later in May of 1991 she was again sold and renamed (c) Finikas. She flew the Greek flag until early in 1997 when it changed to Panama. When this picture was added to the archives Finikas was still operational.
