The 1979-built, 11,121-dwt, 8,547-grt general cargo, container and bulk carrier Fossum is seen in this photograph while she was transiting upbound in the Welland Canal during the evening hours of a day in June of 1979. At the time this picture was taken she was sailing southbound in the canal just after she had departed from lock 2 which is located in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. Photograph by Barry Andersen.

She was built in Kiel, Germany by Schiffswerft u Maschinenfabrik Paul Lindenau GmbH for K/S Fossum A/S as Fossum and she entered service during April of that year under the management of Lovenskiold & Hoyers Rederi, Norway. In 1982 she was renamed Sudan Crown and in 1983 the name Fossum was re-applied. Then in 1985 she was sold to Tor Team K/S, Norway and renamed Aries. in 1998 she was sold by them to Confidence Shipping of Panama and renamed Daniel. When this picture was added to the archives in 1/2003 she was still operational as such.
