The 2001/2002-built, 9,073-dwt, 6,650-grt, multi purpose crane ship Flinterstar is seen in
this photograph while she was transiting upbound in the Welland Canal during the morning hours of
December 6th, 2002. At the time this picture was taken she was sailing southbound in the canal
just south of lock 3 which is located in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada.
She was built in the Netherlands as hull number 331 by the Ferus Smit Shipyard Co. Ltd. for Flinter Groningen B.V., Netherlands.
Her keel was laid down during August of 2001, the nearly completed ship was launched on May 17th, 2002 and
she entered sevice on July 15th, 2002 under the name Flinterstar. As a multi purpose ship Flinterstar
is capable of carrying a wide variety of cargoes from containers and large project cargo modules to general cargo
bulk loads like grain, magnesite ore or steel products. Photograph by
