The 2002-built, 9,200-dwt, 6,650-grt, multi purpose crane ship Flintersky is seen in this photograph while she was transiting upbound in the Welland Canal during the morning hours of December 7th, 2002. At the time this picture was taken she was sailing southbound in the canal just south of lock 3 which is located in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. This was her maiden voyage.

She was built in the Netherlands as hull number 332 by the Ferus Smit Shipyard Co. Ltd. for Flinter Groningen B.V., Netherlands. Her keel was laid down on February 25, 2002, the nearly completed ship was launched on October 5 and she entered service early in November under the name Flintersky. As a multi purpose ship Flintersky is capable of carrying a wide variety of cargoes from containers and large project cargo modules to general cargo bulk loads like grain, magnesite ore or steel products.
