The general cargo vessel Maria Oldendorff is seen in this photograph while transiting upbound in the Welland Canal during the morning hours of a day in May of 1986. At the time it was taken she was sailing southbound in the canal at Port Robinson, Ontario, Canada. Photograph by Willem VanMaanen

This ship was built in West Germany and entered service in December of 1969 as (a) Maria Oldendorff. In December of 1986 she was sold out of the Oldendorff fleet to Chinese owners who applied the name (b) Bi Jia Shan. She flew the Chinese flag from that time until March of 1995 when it changed to Panama, then a year later it changed once again to Belize. When this picture was added to the archives she was still reported as operational as Bi Jia Shan however her time is nearly out.
