The 1968-built 14,990-dwt, 9,031-grt general cargo vessel Capetan Giannis is seen in this photograph while she was arriving at the port of Seattle, Washington, U.S.A. during May of 1975. Photograph by Ray Thorsteinson courtesy Marc Piche.

She was built in Sunderland, England by Bartram & Sons Ltd. for the Alafouzos Shipping Company Ltd. of Greece as Capetan Giannis. She was one of the early SD-14 class merchant ships that were built in England. Through her career she sailed as Capetan Giannis (79), Agia Skepi (90) for Sigma Shipping, Gigi F (92) for Greencast Shipping and finally Faros for Mrs. Kamal Aly Hassan of Panama until she was retired in 1993.

On July 22nd, 1993 Faros arrived off Alang, India and subsequently ran herself up on the scrapping beach. There in the weeks that followed workers from Kwality Steel Suppliers sliced the 25 year old hull into pieces that were later shipped away and recycled into new steel.
