Beluga Performer - Valetta, Malta

The general cargo ship Beluga Performer is seen in this photograph transitting upbound in the Welland Canal during the morning hours of August 9th, 1999. At the time it was taken she was sailing southbound in the canal between locks 6 and 7 in Thorold, Ontario, Canada, heading for lock 7.

This ship was launched on July 9, 1982 by Barkmeijer Stroobos B.V., Stroobos, Netherlands as hull #222. She was later completed for Holtrade Shipping B.V., Heerenveen as SAMSUN CARRIER. She had the following statistics - 4,047grt, 2,420 nrt 6,081 dwt. 92.46 metres x 16.21 metres x 8.1 metres overall. Power was provided by a 6 cylinder Werkspoor engine of 2,600 bhp and it gave a speed of 12 knots. In 1986 she was renamed FRISIAN CARRIER by the same owners but was soon after transferred to Frisian Shipping & Chartering B.V., (Holwerda Scheepvaart B.V., managers) Heerenveen, and renamed HASKERLAND. In 1987 she was transferred to Frisian Shiptrade B.V. (Holwerda Shipmanagement B.V. managers) Heerenveen but not renamed.

In 1991 she was again transfered, this time to Scheepvaartonderneming Haskerland (Holwerda Shipmanagement B.V., managers) Heerenveen and renamed INARA. Renamed HASKERLAND in 1992 and in 1998 she was sold to Rasalhague Shipping Ltd. (Beluga Shipping GmbH, managers), registered in Antigua & Barbuda and renamed BELUGA PERFORMER. The following year she was transfered to Beluga Performer Shipping Ltd. (Beluga Shipping GmbH managers) of Valetta, Malta but her name was not changed

Her particulars were changed to 3,965 grt, 2,426 nrt and 6,081 dwt
