The 1982-built, 18,002-dwt bulk carrier Baltic Trader is seen in this photograph as she was
transiting upbound in the Welland Canal during the morning hours of September 10th, 1988. At the
time this picture was taken she was sailing southbound in the canal south of lock 7 in Thorold,
Ontario, Canada destined for the North American Great Lakes. She sailed originally as Seaward
Ace until 1983 before being renamed Baltic Trader. In 1992 she was renamed Handy
Voyager, Da Run in 1993 and Lucky Pioneer in 1994. When this photograph was added
to the archives she was still operational as Lucky Pioneer.
