The 1969-built, 16,284 dwt, general cargo/container ship Axel Johnson is seen in this photograph while she was
underway possibly at Seattle, Washington during August of 1973. Sometime during the late 1970s her deck cranes were
removed. Click here to see her after her retrofit. In 1986 she and her sistership
Margaret Johnson were sold to Universal Glow Inc and towed
to Piraeus, Greece where both were to be converted to passenger ships. Only Axel Johnson received the conversion
and she wnet on to sail as Regent Sun (87), Italia (88) and Costa Marina. Today she continues to sail
as Costa Marina for Costa Crociere SpA of Italy.
