Ana Safi - Panama

The small bulk carrier Ana Safi is seen in this photograph while transiting upbound in the Welland Canal during the early afternoon hours of November 13, 2000. At the time it was taken she was sailing southbound in the canal above lock 3 in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. She was partially loaded with general cargo from Germany for Duluth, Minnesota.

This ship was built in West Germany, launched in August of 1975 and entered service during September as (a) Liberta. She has sailed under the following names and flags since then. (a) Liberta Germany (7/76), (b) Zim Jamaica Germany (7/80), (c) Liberta Antigua (7/88), (d) Safi Antigua (10/96), (e) OPDR Safi Panama (11/98), (f) Ana Safi Panama. When this picture was added to the archives she was still reported as operational under this latest name.
